A walk in the woods

We saw birds. Ducks. Deer (with antlers & baby spots). Turtles. Crazy alligator fish. And even the nice lady we met at our yard sale yesterday.

But no Papa.

But the little Nature Boy made the best of a lonely situation. He was so independent; went running up the trails & the bird boardwalk without evening looking back to check if I was still following him!

Alexander's speech has really exploded this summer. We're working hard to keep the binkie out of his mouth to encourage him to shout out the names of everything he sees. But, of course, now that he can ask for his binkie ("Binkee") by name when he is tired, cranky or just sees it laying around, our task is a little more difficult.

One of his favorite animals, and words, is "duck." Sometimes he calls all birds "ducks," although he can say "bird" also. As he learns more sounds, he can say just about any word you ask him to, although he probably only has 40ish words that he says regularly that a stranger would definitely understand.

Papa has worked about 40 hours of overtime since the wind storm last Wednesday. And our little man is really missing him. This morning when the boy woke, he jumped out of bed, said "Papa," and ran to the guest room to look for daddy, since Papa wasn't in our bed.

After our stroll @ Oglebay Park, and a quick stop at a yard sale, where Mama bought Alexander a pink princess doll stroller, 2 pink Barbie cell phones (one with a pink, bedazzled carrying case), a pink Barbie laptop and some manly-man plastic tools, we got the call that Papa was home & waiting for us! Alexander was so happy to see his Papa; he showed off all his new pink toys, rolled around on the floor with a punch-drunk Papa, and then Papa headed to bed. And the boy's mood dropped. He cranked & cried for the majority of the rest of the day. Until Papa woke up around 6pm. Party time.

And then our Papa went back to work at 8pm. Ugh. Our Papa's such a hard-worker, and I know it is hard for him to be away from the boy so long. We're lucky we have him!
