May 11. Oh, what a morning. Oh, what a great day. What a wonderful place to bring our boys home to visit. Louisiana is truly wild and wonderful. And if we couldn't tell while roaming the streets and observing the charecters, it was certainly obvious when we arrived at Ronnie & Ellen's camp on the Amite River. Fabulous.
(the original picture files, although dull, seem to be much better quality than these... but I'm too busy to re-edit everything. I am still not a Lightroom 4 fan...yet.)
Unfortunately, in our poor trip planning, we didn't tell anyone we were coming until we were 100% certain... the week before. So Ellen, the lovely lady Babushka planned the trip to visit, was off adventuring with all the other Cajun Queens. We did see her & Melissa for a minute the night we arrived; just long enough to share a bottle of wine. Next time we'll plan better & squeeze in a few cases of beer too!
Anyway, lucky for us, Ronnie needs no help in the kitchen, and he's particularly accomplished over a crawfish pot. And when it comes to crawfish, he is the boss. Maybe we should start calling him Captain Crawfish. Too much? Maybe :).
And speaking of too much. Aren't these children too cute? Oh my, I am in love. Galina & Ellie are such peaceful, lovely children. Good times.
Nette had her fishing licence (probably everyone there had one... but us), which was a big highlight for Alexander & Galina... especially when they caught a catfish!
Alexander loved the crawfish. Loved. He started out playing with a dead mud bug, then a nephew took the claws off of one, then the boy started pulling live, big clawed crawfish out. And then after playing, and talking to them, he would throw then in the River. There goes dinner.
At one point, he must have let a crawfish on the dock to crawl away. A biker stopped the escape & tossed the mud bug back in the cooler. Alexander started bawling. So upset. The tough-looking Harley-rider got instantly soft and pulled another crawfish out of the cooler for A. He was trying to take care of Alexander by giving him a bug with tiny claws, that just made A wail louder, "That's not mine!" So he finally calmed down, got his back, started to throw him in the river and I stop him. Cry-town again... until I explained, they don't live in the River, they live in the cooler. All was well with the crustacean world once again.
Ronnie made two huge pots of crawfish. Hot, spicey, big. Delicious. Thank you!
They weren't born on the bayou, but they certainly did fit in. The boys had the best day playing at the camp with their friends (both human & not). Fantabulous!
So, in addition to nuts, candy and sandwiches, we brought a huge jug of apple juice. What we didn't bring was kid cups. Luckily, we socialize with environmentally conscious re-users. Wash out a Shiner Bottle & what do you have? A kid cup. Done. Now, convincing Galina she was actually allowed to drink from the bottle was a little more difficult. She was adorable. She pretended to drink, giggled, then called to her Mama to ask if she was really allowed to drink from the bottle. Adorable!
We're missing a napping Ellie & a galavanting Ellen, and a few others. But this is one fabulous family photo. Love.

Seriously? Now all I want is a crawfish/corn/potato dinner. How fun!
