Road Trip: Athens, Georgia

Life was getting a little mundane in Wild & Wonderful West Virginia last week, so we hit the road. OK, it wasn't that spontaneous, we spent four days collecting furniture, dishes and bedding to fill a Uhaul trailer before heading South. And we weren't without a mission, we wanted to give Cousin Andrei a warm welcome to the good old U.S. and A... welcome him home:).

Alexander was a little troubled when we started packing up the couch & mattress, but he made the best of it!

Although the 11 hour car trip was a little...long... for the boys, they did great! Very little crank and a whole lot of crazy...

But even the crank looks cute in pictures, don't you think?

Welcome to Georgia; you're nearly home!

We didn't actually do anything on our Georgian adventure, but we did find a Mellow Mushroom for Mama, Daddy ate out with Andrei every night (with no kiddos) and Alexander found a girlfriend at the hotel pool. Then we all got sick; thank goodness these boys are troopers!

But we weren't there for fun, we were there for one square-headed, looks-like-daddy mission, Cousin Andrei. At first Alexander called him Savely's big brother. Then the boy agreed he was Daddy's cousin. But by the time we were in the car driving home, Alexander was talking about HIS big brother, Andrei!

Before we arrived, Andrei had been living in a small on-campus co-ed dorm. While we waited to move him to bigger & better things, Nature phoned... Yeah. So. Three-years-old and already acquainted with recently-showered, towel-wearing coeds and pooping in a communal bathroom. Great success! Luckily, Andrei was moving out, not in...

Since Papa & I are just undergraduates with two small children, we really didn't have much to offer Andrei. I mean, other than our extra furniture and our shopping expertise, of course. So first stop Sunday morning... Target of course. Where we proceeded to buy more than we could fit in one full-size SUV, so Andrei had to ride his new bike back to the hotel. Two miles he said, no problem. He's European, he rides 2 miles while he sleeps at night, right? Well... kinda, it was a really long two miles...:).

Did I mention how much Daddy enjoyed eating ribs and tacos each night for dinner? Yeah, well Alexander enjoyed the waffles equally much for breakfast each morning!

Moving was hard work; but Andrei did an amazing job cleaning and setting up his apartment in a very short time. Kinda looks like our apartment in Baton Rouge, don't you think? Just a lot less cluttered and without the beer fridge:).

Early Tuesday morning, with a very sick Daddy & snotty boy, we headed home.

Despite being sick, Daddy is still a good sport. He sat in the cramped 3rd row to please Captain Alexander for a quick & humid lunch.

Six states, each way, in four days. Pwheww. Home Sweet Home... although, I think I might prefer the adventure.
